The annual Hong Kong Pride Parade is returning this year with an indoor bazaar called Rainbow Market on November 13

Due to Hong Kong’s social distancing measures, the annual Pride Parade will return this November 13 as an indoor bazaar called Rainbow Market instead of the usual parade and rallies. The market will celebrate the theme of “Stay in Love” to highlight the loneliness and separation that the LGBTQ+ community face due to their sexual orientation.

The event has been suspended for the past two years ago due to political unrest and moved online last year due to the pandemic. Despite the new market element this year, the organisers are hopeful that the new format will continue to gain support from the public to make Hong Kong more diverse and LGBTQ+ friendly.

“In 2021, in the pursuit of a more diverse and LGBTQ+ friendly Hong Kong, we may still need to search for more means to get together. Even though the future is unforeseeable, let us all make this promise that we would seize every opportunity to meet with each other in the future so that we won’t be apart,” the organisers said on their website.

“May we never truly be apart, let’s meet in love and look towards seeing a bright future together,” they added.

There will be 30 small booths of different LGBT+ supportive businesses in the Market Zone. Meanwhile, at the Stay in Love zone, around 20 booths featuring sponsors, participating groups and activity booths will participate. Lastly, the Prize zone is where different types of rainbow art installations will be used for photo taking.

The Rainbow Market will take place in The Wave in Kwun Tong and is free of charge so everyone is welcome to join. LGBTQ+ groups and businesses who want to host a booth can apply here. The bazaar is open from 12–8 pm. For more details, please visit the official website.

Also taking place on November 13 is the Hong Kong Pride Parade Official Party. Held in Lambda Lounge from 10 pm–3 am, the party will feature live music, drag queen performances and lucky draws. Part of the entry fee will be donated and used as the operation cost of the Hong Kong Pride Parade.
